The Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Moldova Launches the eVMS.md Platform for Direct Investments in Government Securities

The Republic of Moldova is taking a significant step toward modernizing the financial market by launching the first online platform dedicated to direct investments in Government Securities (VMS) - eVMS.md. Starting July 31, 2024, citizens in the country and abroad will have access to a simple, transparent, intermediary-free and commission-free way to invest in VMS. This project was created by the Ministry of Finance, with the support of the USAID Project “Financial Sector Transparency in Moldova”.

What are Government Securities (VMS)?

Government Securities (VMS) are financial instruments issued by the government to borrow from investors funds intended for financing public projects. They are considered safe investments because they are guaranteed by the state and offer regular interest.

Among the types of VMS are government bonds, which are issued for terms longer than one year, and treasury bills, which are issued for a term of up to one year.

“Citizens, without the intermediation of the bank, will be able to create an account, link to this account a bank card or bank account at the bank where they are served, and follow the Ministry of Finance announcements regarding government securities that are to be placed for trading or purchased by citizens”, said Ion Gumene.
