For currencies with a small unit value the NBM quotes 10, 100 or 1000 units — that is why some rows read "per 100". The change is computed per unit.

Methodology and sources
How the NBM sets the official rate
The National Bank of Moldova sets the official rate of the leu every business day, based on interbank foreign-exchange market transactions, and publishes it in the second half of the day — valid for the following day. On non-business days the last set rate remains in force.
Official rate vs commercial rate
The NBM rate is a reference rate, used for accounting, statistics and contracts. Actual currency exchange happens at commercial banks and exchange offices, which set their own buy and sell rates with a spread over the reference.
What the nominal means
For currencies with a small unit value (Japanese yen, Hungarian forint and others), the NBM expresses the rate per 10, 100 or 1000 units. The page shows the nominal next to the rate, while the converter and changes always calculate per unit.
Where the data comes from
Every value comes directly from the NBM's official services: the daily rate table and the historical evolution export. Data refreshes automatically; if the source is temporarily down, the page serves the last saved set with its exact date.
Frequently asked questions about exchange rates
The NBM sets the official rate every business day and publishes it in the second half of the day, usually after 16:00. The published rate is valid for the following day, and this page updates automatically.
On non-business days the last set official rate remains valid — usually Friday's. That is why the change shown on Monday reflects the real movement versus the last business day.
The NBM rate is an official reference, not a transaction rate. Commercial banks and exchange offices set their own buy and sell rates with a margin over the reference — so the counter price differs from what you see here.
No. The official rate is used for accounting valuations, statistics, customs duties and contracts. For an actual exchange, compare banks' and exchange offices' rates — the difference versus the NBM reference is your real cost.
That is the nominal: for currencies with a small unit value the NBM quotes 10, 100 or 1000 units so the values stay readable. The Japanese yen's rate, for example, is expressed per 100 JPY.
Use the converter at the top of the page: enter the amount, pick MDL and EUR, and the result is calculated instantly at the day's official rate. It works both ways and for any pair of quoted currencies.
The NBM's historical service provides GBP and CHF data from July 2021, when the quotation list was revised. USD and EUR history goes back to 1995, the hryvnia to 1996, the Romanian leu to 2005, and the ruble to 1998, after redenomination.
