We Have More Millionaires in 2022

In a year marked by economic change and development, the Republic of Moldova saw an encouraging trend in the growth of the number of millionaires. In 2022, the country saw a significant rise in high-net-worth individuals, reflecting confidence and economic progress.

 

Growth in the Number of Millionaires

According to the latest data and economic studies, the number of millionaires in the Republic of Moldova recorded remarkable growth in 2022. According to information provided by the State Tax Service, the number of millionaires increased by 803 people compared with the previous year, which recorded 4007 individuals, then reaching a total of 4810 millionaires in 2022, representing a 20% increase. This significant development highlights the country's prosperity and economic potential.

Distribution of Millionaires by Age Category

The information provided by the State Tax Service shows impressive diversity in the ages of millionaires in the Republic of Moldova. The youngest registered millionaire is only 19 years old, while the oldest reaches 82 years. This demonstrates that success and prosperity are not limited by age. One interesting aspect is that the age group with the most millionaires is between 40 and 49 years old, with a total of 1.501 people. At the same time, 1099 millionaires fall into the age group between 30 and 39 years old.

Total Income of Millionaires and Its Distribution

According to data provided by the State Tax Service, the total income declared by millionaires in the Republic of Moldova in 2022 amounts to the impressive sum of 17.7 billion lei. The information provided also indicates that there is a variety of income levels among millionaires. Thus, 3512 people declared income between 1 million and 3 million lei, while 756 people earned between 3 and 6 million lei. Another 291 millionaires obtained between 6 and 11 million lei, while 256 people recorded income of more than 11 million lei. 

The youngest person in this category is 19 years old, the oldest –  82 years old.

The largest amount of income declared by an individual in 2022 was 43.8 million lei.

Income of All Individuals

The sum of income obtained according to information presented by income payers in Moldova for 2022 amounted to 98.2 billion lei, income earned by 1.53 million people, while income tax withheld at the source of payment and declared amounted to 7.2 billion lei.

In the total income obtained by individuals, income in the form of salary payments predominates (74.13 %), followed by income obtained from dividends (12.92 %) and income obtained from transferring possession and/or use of real estate and movable property, except for agricultural land (3.1 %).

It is worth mentioning that the growth in the number of millionaires is not only a measure of economic prosperity, but also of the business climate and existing opportunities in the Republic of Moldova. This can attract even more investment and can stimulate the development of local entrepreneurship, having a chain effect on sustainable economic growth.

However, it is important that this growth be accompanied by regulatory measures and an effective tax system to ensure fairness and transparency in the distribution of wealth and to avoid tax evasion or excessive inequality.
