What is the Moldova International Exchange
Moldova International Exchange (official name “Bursa Internationala a Moldovei” S.A., commercial brand BIMx) is a new stock exchange currently going through authorization. The role of an exchange is that of a market operator: the regulated venue where companies and the state can raise money by issuing stocks and bonds, and investors can buy and sell these instruments under transparent conditions.
Don't confuse Moldova's two exchanges. Moldova Stock Exchange is the old one, with low liquidity. BIMx is the new project, designed after the model of the Bucharest Stock Exchange.
Why it's appearing now
Moldova's capital market is small relative to its economy. Companies finance themselves almost exclusively through bank credit, and local investors have few regulated instruments available to them.
BIMx is part of the Capital Market Development Strategy 2025–2030 and aims to narrow this gap: alternative financing sources for companies and more options for investors. The state estimates attracting up to 300 million euros over the next decade.
Who is building it
BIMx is a joint-stock company, created through a public-private partnership. The state, through the Public Property Agency, holds 20% of the shares. The other shareholders are financial institutions and companies: Bucharest Stock Exchange, maib, Moldindconbank, OTP Bank Moldova, Donaris Vienna Insurance Group, Grawe Carat Asigurari, Moldcell, Premier Energy, and other partners.
The technology platform is designed as a replica of the Bucharest Stock Exchange's system, with investor access through modern apps. The Government approved the creation of the exchange in October 2025, and CNPF registered the founding share issue — 29.475.000 lei, 2.947.500 shares of 10 lei each — on 20 January 2026.
The road to launch
BIMx is not yet operational. Authorization is underway, under the supervision of CNPF.
What it could bring
Once it becomes operational, BIMx would allow:
- companies — to raise capital through stock and bond issues, as an alternative to bank credit;
- non-professional investors — access to regulated local instruments, with app-based trading;
- the market — interconnection of the Central Depository with EU depositories (starting with Romania), which would open the way to cross-border listings.
All of these are announced plans, conditional on the completion of authorization. Nothing is available yet, and any investment involves risk.

What it means for you now
BIMx matters for the local market, but it doesn't change anything today for an investor in Moldova: the exchange is not open yet. Until it becomes operational, access to regulated instruments happens mainly through regulated international brokers. See also Invest in Moldova.

Since 2012 we've offered independent education about the entire investment universe, with regulated broker partners.
